About the place
Carol I bought the land in 1872, and work began in 1873 to plans by the architects Johannes Schultz, Carol Benesch and, later, Karel Liman. The castle was inaugurated in 1883 and finished in 1914. It has about 160 rooms, and the central tower is 66 metres high. It was the world's first castle fully powered by locally produced electricity, from its own power plant on the estate.
The castle belongs to the Royal Family and houses the Peleș National Museum. The standard tour covers the ground floor and the first floor. Tickets are sold by time slot, with a limit of 2,000 visitors a day, and entry is in order of arrival. It holds 4.7 on Google from about 76,700 reviews.
