About the place
The casino was built at King Carol I's initiative, to plans by the architect Petre Antonescu, and opened on 5 July 1912. Its first shareholder was Baron Edgar de Marçay, also a shareholder in the Monte Carlo casino. It was reopened in 1913 with a concert by the young George Enescu. Gambling ended in 1947, and the building became a conference and performance venue.
The guided tour takes in the foyer, the Theatre Hall, the Baccarat Hall and the Prince Dimitrie Ghica Hall, then the exhibition rooms. The Theatre Hall, with 400 seats, is known for its acoustics. The building stands at the top of Dimitrie Ghica Park, the central park between the station and Carol I Boulevard, which holds 4.7 on Google from about 17,100 reviews.
