About the place
The monastery is on Palanca Street, at about 1,000 metres above sea level below the Caraiman wall, close to the lower cable-car station. The community was formed in 1998, and the hermitage became a monastery in 2008. It is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, celebrated on 14 September.
Daily services are held in the wooden church, and Sunday and feast-day services in the large church. The monastery also runs a pastoral centre with guest rooms and a refectory. The road up to the gate is paved.
Good to know
- Dress modestly; it is a monastery for monks.
- The service schedule is on the monastery website, under 'Program liturgic'.
- The cable car to Babele is about 300 metres away, so you can combine the two in one day.
